Taking advantage of three errors, the Padres scored three unearned runs in the 12th inning and dealt the Giants their eighth straight defeat, 7-5. Pinch-hitter Jerry Turner hit a three-run double in the sixth inning to give the Padres a 4-1 lead, but Marc Hill sent the game into overtime with a homer in the ninth.

Tucker Ashford opened the Padres' 12th with a single and two runs followed on errors by Dave Heaverlo, Vic Harris and Darrell Evans before the Padres tacked on their final marker with a double by Gene Tenace and single by Dave Kingman.
