Doug DeCinces clubbed a pair of two-run homers in support of Jim Palmer, who pitched the Orioles to an 8-2 victory to hand the Red Sox their seventh straight defeat. Rick Dempsey also homered for the Orioles, accounting for their first run in the third inning.

Luis Tiant was working on a three-hitter for the Red Sox and held a 2-1 lead going into the seventh when Tony Muser singled and DeCinces smacked his first homer of the game. A walk to Rick Dempsey and double by Al Bumbry added another run before the inning ended. DeCinces homered again in the eighth when the Orioles scored four runs to end a string of 11 straight losses to the Red Sox since June 21, 1976. [The Sporting News]
