. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Two pitchers who were traded after the game made lackluster appearances as the Reds defeated the Phillies, 8-7, in 10 innings. Gary Nolan, later swapped to the Angels, started for the Reds and was kayoed in the first inning after giving up two-run homers by Mike Schmidt and Richie Hebner. Tom Underwood, whom the Phillies traded to the Cardinals, was the loser in the 10th.

Tom Hume, who replaced Nolan, hit his first major league homer, but the Phillies had a round-tripper by Greg Luzinski while building up a 7-2 lead. The Reds rallied for four runs in the seventh and tied the score with two out in the ninth when George Foster, swinging at a 3-0 pitch, smashed a homer off Gene Garber. Bob Bailey singled in the 10th and stole second. Champ Summers went in to run for Bailey and scored when Pete Rose singled for his third hit of the game. [The Sporting News]
