. . . where the 1970s live forever!
A two-run homer by Enos Cabell in the fifth inning carried the Astros to a 4-1 victory in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, but the Mets came back to win the second game, 6-4, in 10 innings. Cabell's homer, after J.R. Richard reached base on interference by catcher John Stearns, broke a 1-1 tie. Jose Cruz, who added an insurance marker with a single in the seventh, was the Astros' only productive batter in the nightcap, driving in all their runs with a homer and triple.

The Mets, who had a homer by John Milner, tied the score at 4-4 in the ninth with two unearned runs on errors by Bob Watson and Cabell. In the 10th, Bruce Boisclair doubled and when Ed Herrmann threw wildly to third on a bunt by Jerry Grote, Boisclair scored. Felix Millan followed with a double to drive in Grote and ice the decision for the Mets. [The Sporting News]
