Continuing their phenomenal turnabout, the Mets posted their seventh victory in eight games under Joe Torre as new manager when Tom Seaver pitched a five-hitter and shut out the Reds, 8-0. Seaver struck out 10 to raise his career total to 2,400 and move ahead of Sandy Koufax into 13th place on the all-time list. Lee Mazzilli, who had three singles, drove in three runs.
