A three-run rally in the ninth inning carried the Twins to a 4-3 victory over the Yankees. A homer by Chris Chambliss helped the Yankees take a 3-1 lead behind the pitching of Ron Guidry, who allowed only five hits going into the ninth.

However, when Craig Kusick, Jerry Terrell and Butch Wynegar opened the stanza with singles to score a run, Guidry gave way to Sparky Lyle. The Yankee reliever retired two batters while walking one before Rod Carew came to the plate and singled, driving in the Twins' tying and winning runs. [The Sporting News]
