. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Nolan Ryan set an A. L. record for most games with 10 or more strikeouts when the Angels' fireballer achieved the feat for the 75th time in posting a 2-1 victory over the Tigers. Ryan fanned 12 and allowed only three hits while gaining the 100th triumph of his A. L. career. The Angels' ace and Sam McDowell, former Indians' star, previously had been tied for the most 10-or-more-strikeout games at 74 each. Sandy Koufax of the Dodgers holds the major league mark, 97. Counting his previous service in the N. L., Ryan's total was 89.

John Hiller, who made his second start of the season and third in five years for the Tigers, was the loser to Ryan when the Angels scored their runs in the second inning on singles by Joe Rudi, Bobby Bonds and Ron Jackson and a sacrifice fly by Bobby Grich. [The Sporting News]
