A triple by Doug Rader with the bases loaded climaxed a scoring outburst in the fourth inning and produced the Padres' 4-3 victory over the Braves. Bob Shirley singled, Bill Almon walked and George Hendrick singled for one run. After Dave Winfield forced Almon, Mike Ivie walked to fill the sacks, setting the stage for Rader's triple.
