The Dodgers, who saw their eight-game winning streak broken the day before, scored two runs in the eighth to down the Mets, 3-1. With the score tied, 1-1, Davey Lopes doubled and scored the go-ahead run on Bill Russell's single. Russell advanced to third on an error by Mike Vail and tallied the final run on a single by Steve Garvey. The Mets' run came on Vail's first homer in two seasons, in the second inning.
