Exploding for eight runs in the first inning, the White Sox smashed six extra-base hits, one short of the modern major league record for one inning, while trouncing the Rangers, 12-4. The barrage included a homer by Jorge Orta with two men on base, another by Jim Essian with one aboard, a two-run triple by Oscar Gamble and doubles by Chet Lemon, Ralph Garr and Jim Spencer.
