Eric Soderholm, who rapped two singles, driving in one run and scoring another, followed by smashing a homer in the fifth inning to carry the White Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Angels. Nolan Ryan, who pitched for the Angels, had control trouble, walking seven.

In the second inning, a pass to Jim Spencer set up the first run for the White Sox on a single by Soderholm. Ralph Garr walked with the bases loaded to force in Soderholm in the fourth. Chris Knapp, who started for the White Sox, also passed seven but emerged as the winner with relief help from Lerrin LaGrow. [The Sporting News]
