After being held to one hit in the first six innings, the Mets erupted for four runs in the seventh and defeated the Cubs, 4-1. Felix Millan was safe on an error to start the stanza and scored on singles by Bruce Boisclair and Dave Kingman.

Another single by Ed Kranepool put the Mets ahead, 2-1. Rick Reuschel walked Roy Staiger to load the bases before yielding the mound to Willie Hernandez. Jerry Grote then hit a sharp grounder that bounced over the head of shortstop Ivan DeJesus for a single, driving in the final two tallies. [The Sporting News]
