With a paltry crowd of 5,494 on hand, the Athletics profited from six unearned runs and won the first game of a doubleheader, 9-6, before the Twins came back to take the second game. 7-1. Wayne Gross, A's rookie third baseman, drove in three runs in the opener with his first major league homer and a double. Dick Allen accounted for two RBIs with a double and single.

Paul Thormodsgard, rookie righthander from Reno in the Class A California League, won the nightcap for the Twins with the help of Tom Burgmeier, who relieved with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and put down the A's threat. [The Sporting News]
