After looking like patsies in a pair of shutout defeats, the Mariners made it two straight over the Angels with a 5-1 victory. Ruppert Jones batted in two runs with a double in the third inning and received credit for a third RBI by drawing a pass with the bases loaded in the fourth, while Larry Milbourne accounted for two other tallies with a single in the fifth.

Gary Wheelock, 25-year-old rookie righthander, allowed only four hits and the Angels' lone run in six innings before his elbow tightened, and gained credit for his first major league victory. [The Sporting News]
