With help from Skip Lockwood, Craig Swan gained his first victory since July 4 when the Mets defeated the Cubs, 5-2. Billy Baldwin batted in the Mets' first two runs with a triple in the first inning and scored himself on a three-bagger by Jerry Grote. Baldwin gave two runs back to the Cubs in the third, dropping a fly ball by Pete LaCock and allowing an unearned pair to score. The Mets then profited from two errors to post their clinching runs in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
