After giving up three singles in the first four innings, Rick Waits did not yield a hit the rest of the way while pitching the Indians to a 2-1 victory over the Royals. Hal McRae drove in the Royals' run with a single in the first, but the Indians knotted the count in their half with a single by Duane Kuiper, two walks and a sacrifice fly by Boog Powell. The deciding run followed in the fourth on a pass to Powell, single by George Hendrick, Buddy Bell's forceout of Powell and a single by Ray Fosse. [The Sporting News]
