With a triple by Mike Schmidt as the biggest blow, the Phillles scored five runs in the third inning and defeated the Expos, 5-4. After the Expos scored twice in the top half of the inning, Jim Lonborg drew a walk to start the Phillies' outburst, Dave Cash doubled and Schmidt tripled both runners home. Following a pass to Greg Luzinski, Jay Johnstone doubled to make it 3-2.

An intentional pass to Garry Maddox loaded the bases and brought up Tommy Hutton, who hit a sacrifice fly to score Luzinski. Another pass to Johnny Oates reloaded the sacks and Lonborg, batting for the second time in the stanza, singled to drive in what proved to be the winning run. [The Sporting News]
