Darrell Evans hit two homers, smashing his second blow with two men on base in the ninth inning when the Giants scored five runs to defeat the Phillies, 9-5. Evans' first homer put the Giants ahead, 4-3, in the sixth, but Greg Luzinski sent the Phillies in front with a two-run smash in the eighth.

Chris Speier led off the Giants' ninth with a pinch-double. Larry Herndon beat out an infield hit and Marty Perez doubled to drive in Speier with the tying run. After an infield hit by Gary Matthews loaded the bases, Ken Reitz hit a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead tally and Evans followed with his three-run homer to ice the decision. [The Sporting News]
