Left without scoring support, Randy Jones suffered his second straight defeat when the Braves counted in the ninth inning on a single by Rod Gilbreath and double by Jim Wynn to edge the Padres, 1-0. Jones had lost to the Reds, 5-4, in his previous outing. While the lefthander's record dropped to 18-6, Dick Ruthven raised his mark to 12-9 with his shutout performance for the Braves.
