Richie Hebner, who has been bothered by a bad back and has played only occasionally, returned to the Pirates' lineup and capped a three-hit night by smashing a homer in the 13th inning to beat the Mets, 1-0. Doc Medich and Tom Seaver, who were the starters, battled each other through 10 scoreless stanzas. Dave Giusti pitched the last three innings for the Pirates, allowed only one hit and was the winner on Hebner's homer off Ken Sanders, who was on the Mets' mound in relief of Seaver.
