After the Pirates won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 8-5, the Phillies came back behind the three-hit pitching of Steve Carlton to gain a 7-1 victory in the second game. Richie Zisk and Dave Parker each drove in two runs for the Pirates in the opener. The Pirates took command of the game with two out in the first inning by scoring four runs on a double by Al Oliver, triple by Willie Stargell, a walk, throwing error by Larry Christenson and singles by Zisk and Manny Sanguillen.

Larry Bowa had four hits and Greg Luzinski three to lead the Phillies' support of Carlton in the nightcap. Luzinski's hits included a homer. [The Sporting News]
