John Mayberry hit two homers, connecting for the first time with a man on base in the first inning, to start the Royals off to a 6-3 victory over the Tigers. George Brett was aboard with a walk when Mayberry hit his first homer of the game. The Royals then proceeded to add two more runs on a single by Hal McRae, triple by Al Cowens and single by Cookie Rojas. Mayberry homered again in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
