Bringing his record to 5-0, Jim Lonborg pitched the Phillies to a 2-1 victory over the Astros. The Phillies scored an unearned run on an error by Larry Dierker in the first inning and then turned to power for their second tally when Mike Schmidt smashed his 14th homer of the season in the fourth.

The Astros put together two of their four hits -- a double by Wilbur Howard and single by Rob Andrews -- for their run in the sixth. Cesar Cedeno, appearing as a pinch-hitter in the eighth, grounded out to end his 19-game batting streak. [The Sporting News]
