The Giants, who ended their string of 36 consecutive scoreless innings, rallied for five runs in the ninth to defeat the Cubs, 9-5, and snap a four-game losing streak. The Giants ended their scoring drouth with a run in the fourth on singles by Chris Speier, Willie Montanez and Steve Ontiveros.

However, the Cubs were leading, 5-4, going into the ninth when the Giants began their comeback with a double by Derrel Thomas and triple by Montanez to tie the score. Ontiveros singled for the go-ahead run. After a single by Marc Hill, Bobby Murcer tripled, driving in two runs, and then scored himself on an error to clinch the decision. [The Sporting News]
