After giving up seven hits in the first three innings, Doug Rau settled down and pitched the Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Pirates with last-out help from Charlie Hough. Even with their seven hits, the Pirates scored only two runs.

The Dodgers went ahead with three in the third and added two more in the fourth on a single by Rau, triple by Bill Buckner and single by Ted Sizemore. After the Pirates picked up a run in the ninth, Hough relieved Rau and retired Manny Sanguillen for the final out of the game. [The Sporting News]
