A no-hit pitcher for six innings, Nolan Ryan left the game after two more frames and the Orioles then scored an unearned run off Dick Drago in the 10th to defeat the Angels, 3-2. A walk to Doug DeCinces and triple by Brooks Robinson in the seventh accounted for the Orioles' first hit and first run.

The Orioles then tied the score in the eighth on singles by Tony Muser and Royle Stillman around a sacrifice bunt. In the 10th, with Drago on the hill for the Angels, Andres Mora singled and raced to third when Drago threw wildly on a bunt by Ken Singleton.
