Jim Palmer yielded only two hits in 8 2/3 innings before needing help and the Orioles' ace came away with a 5-1 victory, marking the 14th time that the righthander had defeated the Angels in 19 career decisions. The Orioles had a homer by Ken Singleton in scoring all their runs in the first two innings. Palmer gave way to Dyar Miller in the ninth after the Angels scored on a walk to Rusty Torres, single by Jerry Remy and sacrifice fly by Bill Melton. [The Sporting News]
