A single by George Brett for his fourth hit of the game touched off a three-run rally in the 12th inning as the Royals defeated the White Sox, 4-1. With two away, Amos Otis doubled and scored the tie-breaking run on Brett's hit. Jim Kaat, who was turned back in a bid for his 20th victory, issued his first walk of the game to John Mayberry.
