The Cardinals, after tying the score on a homer by Ron Fairly in the seventh inning and then knotting the count again in the 10th on a homer by Ken Reitz, pushed over another run in the overtime stanza and defeated the Padres, 3-2. A passed ball by Ted Simmons let the Padres score their initial run in the seventh before Fairly rapped his round-tripper.

The Padres went ahead in the 10th with a circuit clout by Tito Fuentes, but Reitz' homer tied the score in the Cardinals' half. Mike Tyson, pinch-hitter Bake McBride and Lou Brock then followed with singles to produce the winning run. [The Sporting News]
