. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Pinch-hitter Champ Summers drove in one run with a sacrifice fly and Gene Hiser singled in another for the seventh-inning runs that boosted the Cubs to a 3-1 victory and a split with Braves, who won the opener, 1-0, on a five-hitter by Carl Morton. The Cubs' rally began on a two-base throwing error by Darrell Evans. After a sacrifice bunt by Rob Sperring, Summers tied the score before Don Kessinger singled and Rick Monday walked, setting up Hiser's hit. Darold Knowles replaced winner Ray Burris for his 11th save.

Morton extended his scoreless streak to 17 innings in the opener with the only run coming in the first when Ralph Garr doubled, was sacrificed to third and scored on a grounder by Earl Williams. [The Sporting News]
