The White Sox bunched all their scoring in the fifth inning to edge the Angels, 3-2, rookie Nyls Nyman singling home two of the runs. Brian Downing chased home the winning run with a sacrifice fly. The Sox' Wilbur Wood, although he was relieved in the eighth, got credit for his fourth straight victory. California scored twice after two were out on a walk, double by Mickey Rivers and single by Dave Collins. Rich Gossage replaced Wood and was credited with his 15th save. [The Sporting News]
