A hit batsman led to a run in the fifth inning and enabled John Montefusco to pitch the Giants to a 1-0 victory over the Dodgers in a duel with Andy Messersmith. Derrel Thomas, who was nicked by a pitch with one out, advanced to third on a single by Bobby Murcer.
