John Mayberry, who hit three homers in a losing cause in the previous night's game, delivered a two-run blast in the 10th inning to power the Royals to a 7-5 victory over the Rangers. The Royals had a three-run homer by George Brett en route to a 5-3 lead before the Rangers rallied to tie the score in the ninth.

Gaylord Perry, who drew his fourth straight defeat with the Rangers, was removed after walking Fred Patek to open the 10th. After Stan Thomas relieved, Jim Wohlford sacrificed. The Rangers then brought in Mike Kekich, who retired Brett before facing Mayberry, who homered on the reliever's first pitch. [The Sporting News]
