In a devastating display of power, Fred Lynn batted in 10 runs with three homers and a triple to pace the Red Sox to a 15-1 victory over the Tigers. The rookie outfielder hit a two-run homer in the first inning, a three-run blast in the second and two-run triple in the third. After beating out an infield single in the eighth, Lynn climaxed his slugging show with a three-run homer in the ninth.

His 10 RBIs tied a Boston club record and was one less than the A. L. mark of 11 by Tony Lazzeri of the Yankees in 1936. Jim Bottomley set the major league record with 12 runs batted in for the Cardinals in 1924. [The Sporting News]
