The Giants rallied for four runs after two were out in the ninth inning to defeat the Mets, 5-4. Mike Sadek struck out before the Giants opened their rally with a single by Gary Thomasson. Derrel Thomas bounced to Jerry Koosman, who made a wild throw to second trying for a forceout. Bobby Murcer was retired on a fly for the second out, but Chris Speier singled, driving in Thomasson.

Willie Montanez also singled, scoring Thomas, and when the ball got past Bob Gallagher in left field, Speier crossed the plate on the error. Bruce Miller then singled to drive in Montanez with the winning run. John Milner homered for one of the Mets' two runs in the top half of the ninth when they took a 4-1 lead. [The Sporting News]
