. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Jon Matlack, the 1974 N. L. shutout leader with seven, picked up his first whitewash of the season as the Mets blanked the Astros, 2-0. New York's runs came in the second when Rusty Staub beat out an infield hit, Dave Kingman tripled and Jerry Grote followed with a sacrifice fly. Matlack held the Astros to four hits, escaping the only serious jam in the fourth when he struck out Enos Cabell and got Doug Rader on a pop fly after Cesar Cedeno led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on an infield out.
