Allowing only three hits, Al Fitzmorris outdueled Catfish Hunter and pitched the Royals to a 3-0 victory over the Yankees. Hunter, who yielded six hits, was stopped on his personal four-game winning streak. The Royals reached Hunter for a run in the first inning on a double by Hal McRae and single by Harmon Killebrew before salting away the decision with two tallies in the sixth on a single by George Brett, triple by Vada Pinson and single by Fran Healy.
