The White Sox survived a seven-run seventh inning by the Tigers and hung on to gain a 10-8 victory. The Sox got a lead early, posting two runs in the second inning with the aid of an error by Gene Michael, and sent starter Joe Coleman to the showers in the third frame. Deron Johnson's three-run homer was the big blow and the inning also included a steal of home by Tony Muser.

Stan Bahnsen breezed until the seventh when he yielded a three-run homer to Michael. Cecil Upshaw relieved and gave up four straight singles and three more runs before Bill Gogolewski came on to strike out Gene Lamont with two men on to end the inning. [The Sporting News]
