Rookie Jim Hughes tossed his second straight shutout for the Twins, limiting the Brewers to four hits, while getting home-run support from Steve Braun and Larry Hisle as Minnesota blanked Milwaukee, 6-0. Braun staked Hughes to a 2-0 lead in the third, homering on the heels of a single by Danny Thompson.

Hisle closed out the scoring with a solo homer in the fifth after the Twins had counted three times in the fourth. Eric Soderholm doubled home one run after a walk to Bobby Darwin and single by Tony Oliva. Tom Kelly's sacrifice fly scored Oliva and Soderholm crossed the plate on a single by Thompson.
