Al Oliver ripped a two-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Pirates a 3-2 victory over the Dodgers and hand Don Sutton only his second defeat in his last 21 decisions including playoff and World Series games. The Dodger hurler had a perfect game through 7 1/3 innings before consecutive singles by Richie Zisk, Dave Parker and Manny Sanguillen tied the score at 1-1. Oliver connected for his third homer of the season after Rennie Stennett singled with one out.

The Dodgers took the lead in the first frame when Pirate right fielder Parker let Lee Lacy's single skip through him, allowing Lacy to go to third from where he scored on Steve Garvey's single. The Dodgers got their other run in the ninth when Garvey singled, advanced to second on an infield out and scored on a single by Ron Cey. [The Sporting News]
