Reliever Dennis Eckersley hit Buddy Bradford with the bases loaded and then walked Jorge Orta to force in the winning run as the White Sox posted a 3-2 decision over the Indians. Rookie Jim Kern had yielded just three hits going into the ninth but was removed after walking Bill Melton.

Singles by Deron Johnson and Tony Muser produced one run and, after the Chisox loaded the bases, Eckersley was summoned and promptly hit Bradford and walked Orta. The Indians' first run resulted when George Hendrick stole home on a delayed double steal and their second tally came on Frank Duffy's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. [The Sporting News]
