Burt Hooton, who was obtained from the Cubs, gained his first victory in a Dodgers' uniform, pitching a two-hitter and shutting out the Cardinals, 5-0. After Ted Sizemore doubled in the fourth inning, Hooton retired the next 15 straight batters before Luis Melendez hit a pinch-single in the ninth.

The Dodgers decided the game at the expense of Lynn McGlothen in the fourth when Rick Auerbach batted in two runs with a single after a triple by Willie Crawford and two walks had loaded the bases. Davey Lopes singled and Jim Wynn homered for two more runs in the fifth. Lopes scored the final run in the seventh after stealing second for his 13th theft of the year. [The Sporting News]
