Jim Kaat gained his fifth straight victory and 12th in a row over two seasons when Pat Kelly hit a two-run homer to defeat the Indians, 2-0. The White Sox club record for consecutive victories in one season is 11 by John Rigney in 1939 and Gary Peters in 1963.

Kelly hit his homer off Gaylord Perry in the eighth inning after a single by Tony Muser, sacrifice by Jorge Orta and flyout by Brian Downing. Kaat was removed after giving up the sixth hit off his deliveries to open the ninth. [The Sporting News]
