Held to five hits by Jackie Brown, the Angels not only lost to the Rangers, 5-0, but Nolan Ryan, who suffered his first defeat, was forced to leave the game in the seventh inning with arm trouble. The Rangers nicked Ryan for a run in the fourth when Lenny Randle beat out an infield hit, stole second and scored on a single by Mike Hargrove.

Ryan gave up three more runs with two out in the sixth. Hargrove singled and after Jim Spencer and Toby Harrah walked to load the bases, Roy Howell cleared the sacks with a double. [The Sporting News]
