Exploding for 10 runs in the last four innings, the Reds broke a tight game apart and defeated the Braves, 11-3. Jack Billingham and Phil Niekro were wrapped in a 1-1 duel until the sixth when Tony Perez doubled and scored on a single by Ken Griffey to put the Reds ahead.

Having taken the lead, the Reds proceeded to pour it on with four runs in the seventh, four more in the eighth and a final tally on a homer by George Foster in the ninth.
