The Mets, who had scored a total of only 13 runs while losing five straight games, broke out of their slump to defeat the Cardinals, 14-7. The Mets knocked out Lynn McGlothen in the first inning, scoring six runs, but failed to hold the lead.

Ted Simmons hit two homers for the Cardinals, who pulled into a 7-7 tie in the fifth before the Mets erupted for five runs in the sixth with a bases-loaded double by Jack Heidemann as the big blow.
