Manny Trillo hit his first major league homer, connecting with two men on base, as the Cubs exploded for five runs against Steve Carlton in the first inning en route to a 9-3 victory over the Phillies. Don Kessinger opened the game with a triple and, after Jose Cardenal grounded out, the Cubs put together four straight singles by Bill Madlock, Jerry Morales, George Mitterwald and Rick Monday before Trillo capped the inning with his circuit clout.
