Run-scoring singles by Bobby Tolan and Willie McCovey in the eighth inning brought the Padres a 2-1 victory over the Giants. Randy Jones, who started for the Padres, was the victim of an unearned run in the first. Glenn Beckert batted for Jones in the eighth and was safe on an error. After Enzo Hernandez walked, Tolan singled to tie the score. Johnny Grubb was hit by a pitch to load the bases and McCovey followed with his single to plate the winning run. [The Sporting News]
