Catfish Hunter was a loser for the second time in as many starts when the Red Sox defeated the Yankees, 5-3. Triples by Elliott Maddox and Thurman Munson helped the Yankees take a 3-0 lead before the Red Sox rallied to go ahead with four runs in the fourth.

A walk to Rico Petrocelli and singles by Bernie Carbo and Bob Montgomery netted the first tally. Following a one-out single by Doug Griffin that loaded the bases, Fred Lynn hit a sacrifice fly. After a stolen base, Dwight Evans singled two runs across. [The Sporting News]
