. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Losers of three one-run decisions in Cincinnati a week earlier, the Dodgers won their home opener from the Reds, 5-2, with home-run help from Ron Cey and Jim Wynn. Back-to-back run-scoring doubles by Davey Lopes and Bill Buckner with two out gave L.A. a 2-0 advantage in the third. Cey opened the fifth with a homer and Wynn connected in the sixth for a 4-0 lead.

After the Reds tallied twice in the seventh on doubles by Johnny Bench and Tony Perez, plus a single by Dave Concepcion, Wynn doubled home Rick Auerbach from second for the final Dodger tally in the bottom of the inning. Reliever Mike Marshall preserved starter Doug Rau's first victory, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth by striking out Bench and getting Perez to ground out. [The Sporting News]
